Mestre Barrao

Marcos da Silva, Mestre Barrão, was born in the port city of Recife, on the North East coast of Brazil. Recife is renowned for its Brazilian music and dance, and its long Capoeira tradition.

In 1974, Marcos began studying Capoeira with Mestre Pirajá. While learning the foundations of the art, he showed an affinity for the drums and other instruments as well as the skills that would conduct his life.Read more »

Mestre Piraja

Mestre Piraja is one of the most respected Mestres in Capoeira today, having taught some of the most important Mestres that represent Capoeira not only in Pernambuco but all around the world. Mestre Piraja is the oldest Capoeirista from Recife, and he has received recognition from the state of Pernambuco as one of the head representatives of Capoeira from Pernambuco. Mestre Piraja taught Mestre Barrao his first step to Capoeira and now he is one of the representatives of the group.

Mestre Boi

Master Boi is a native Brazilian who studied Capoeira for most of his life. He has been under the tutelage of many well known Masters in Brazil. At the tender age of 15, his own master saw the skills and talents Master Boi possessed and asked him to become a master. Realizing he was not ready for the responsibility, Master Boi turned this opportunity down and continued his studies in the art form in Capoeira.Read more »

Mestre Eddy Murphy

Edilson Antonio Santos Almeida, Mestre Eddy Murphy, was born on 09 of October in Sao Paulo - Brazil at only 6½ months. No one believed he would survive as he was very small (would fit in shoe box), but after a whole year of treatment in hospital he survived. For that reason his mother put "Antonio" in his name as a promise she made to a saint in Brazil called Saint Antonio if her son survived.
