Salve!

My name is David Payne, Cenoura from Axé Capoeira Kansas City. I began training Axé Capoeira in 1999 under Graduado Relógio's supervision, and it was one of the best things of which I have ever been a part. The passion, the energy and the sense of family one experiences with Axé Capoeira are unrivaled, and I am glad to call myself an Axé Capoeirista.

Back in 2002 some thugs broke into the Vancouver academy. They broke through an unknown window hidden in the front wall. Even though it was my first visit to Vancouver, I felt like that it was my academy. I belonged there. I was proud to help clean up the broken glass and close up that window. It showed me how strong grupo Axé Capoeira really is.

Several years ago, school and work took me away from Kansas City and away from my grupo. To this day, I have found no substitute, nothing that can compare to what I felt and learned from not just Capoeira, but Axé Capoeira. Even though I am 240 miles away from my grupo, I still practice Mestre Barrão's teachings. Distance can take one out of the game, but it can never take one out of Capoeira.

I know what that's like
I'm out of the game lately too. Not for distance reasons...more for health reasons. I had pneumonia late last winter and it killed my lungs pretty badly. I try to train on my own every so often but my lungs are still pretty weak for the strain that Capoeira puts on them. I see my fellow capoeiristas around the city and I look at my uniform and my corda and I remember how much fun I had and how I felt like I was part of a great family. I definitely miss training with Grupo Axe. Hopefully I am strong enough soon to continue my training. Its interesting when I am pensive or deep in thought, I hum a capoeira tune and I relax and all is good again. I'll be a happy capoeirista when I can afford to (both physically and monetarily) start up again. We're part of a great family.

I know what it fells like...
Hi there, i'm Bujao from Axé Capoeira Puebla. I started to train Capoeira under graduado Macaco Simao's academy in the city of Puebla in 2002, after 2 and a half years training, i moved to my born city, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas. I started to search for students who wanted to train capoeira. I brought Simao to teach in the first capoeira workshop here in Tuxtla Gutierrez, it was so great, because i love capoeira so much. After a year and a half, we arrange the 2nd workshop here at the city, but this time Cabaza, simao, morcego simao's brother, sombra, simao's brother, mortadela from axe capoeira veracruz, drupy from axe capoeira guadalajara, and some students from puebla came for supporting the workshop, was so great... Oh my gosh! it seems like yesterday. Then i had to leave the capoeira training cause i started to work in Government's health institute like Advertising designer of a government health program, called Popular Secure, it's like the Health secure for any person or family who doesn't have any health secure, it's free of charge, free medical atention, free medicine... After 3 years working, 1 and a half of no training at all, i felt SAUDADE for those capoeira days, you know. I want to train again, but i just feel like i won't train. I know that i have simao's support, i have talk to him, even if he's in canada right now training under Mestre Barrao's. Thanks for all the knowledge, thanks to Mestre Barrao, for the great and excellent group that you have, and for the oportunity to know you, my Mestre. Best Regards for you all... Axé Bujao
